Hello beautiful people,
This is a sweet and simple day in my life, wearing my brand new and shiny title of “flower painter.” It was a particularly beautiful Saturday morning and I woke up rather late. I had no intention of filming it, but then noticed the morning light… and how could I resist?
✨ what filled my creative cup today
☕️ A warm cup of coffee on a lazy Saturday morning. Spending some time reimagining what slow, sustainable, and nourishing social media sharing could look like. This is a topic I’m dedicating this summer to and might be a broader theme for my upcoming year of forty two.

🌿 Flipping through this gorgeous book called “Flower Couture” by Cordelia de Castellane. The flowers and tablescapes are arranged by color, and she has invented the most delightful color named like “powder and cotton” and “eternal sky.” Her garden bouquets are fresh and effortless and exude the feeling I’m after on the canvas and in the garden.

🌻 Walking through the sunflower gate each morning and cutting fresh wildflower stems to paint. Loving the vintage feeling this color brings to Garden Coco. Someone pointed out that it’s haint blue, so naturally I had to look into it and discovered this fascinating history:
Thinking it might be time to learn how to make proper flower arrangements and perhaps even take an ikebana class in the fall.

🍷 Finishing a weekend day’s work over a quiet glass of wine. Appreciating the mood of joyful sunny yellows against deep earthen browns.
Looking forward to what comes next…
With love, Jess
P.S. A helpful way to let me know if you are digging these artist notes and whether this is space I should continue to cultivate is by leaving a like or a comment... if you are so inspired. xo 🥰
I was so excited when this video showed in my YouTube feed. I get so inspired watching your videos and reading these notes. I’ve been stuck in a rut and lacking motivation to paint. I think the “I’m not good enough” narrative crept back into my head and I got stuck. It was helpful to hear that you’re on a path of discovery and even to see you start over when you weren’t happy with your start to the sunflower painting. I’m going to spend some time and really explore sunflowers - which I love - and practice in both oils and in watercolour. I was also inspired to pick up both of the books you featured. I’m getting Jamie Beck’s book today and can’t wait to explore her photos. Flower Couture I’ll pick up Tuesday ❤️ Thank you for featuring them in your video. Please keep making the videos and sending the notes……the videos are so calming and just so inspiring. Have an amazing day❤️
