Hello beautiful people,
How are you? This week, I did a couple of things for my creative spirit. Nothing crazy, just simple pleasures like seeing wildflowers, turning my fridge into a living mood board, taking a trip to the art supply store, and the zendo. These are places where I find a blend of stillness, beauty, and connection ~ the nutrients I require for inspiration to bloom.
I also had a creative breakthrough…
You see, I have been feeling unsure about the purpose, process, and direction of my work for a few years. As with any relationship, it can get complicated. Fortunately I’ve been slowly and steadily working my way towards clarity through many different practices for the body, mind, and spirit.
It’s easy to talk about clarity when you’re in bloom. But… when you’re a bulb in the muck, before becoming the lotus, great trust is required. Because often the process can look a whole lot like going nowhere, or even moving backwards.
The most important point?
For me, it’s connection. Remembering that inspiration is found through relationship, we don’t have to do it alone! A simple and practical question that I’ve started to ask myself each week is:
What are the nutrients I need for inspiration to bloom?
I would love to hear your answers, if you are inspired to share!
With love, Jess
P.S. This wildflower piece was inspired by Japanese byobu, a rich cultural tradition from which I draw so much inspiration. 🙏
I’m feeling the need to stretch and extend, like a Yoga pose! I enjoy learning, yet I don’t like fumbling and not getting it right for me. But now, I’m flowing into that tension, sitting with and seeing myself relax bit by bit. I’m becoming with the change.
