Hello beautiful people,
How are you feeling these days?
The theme of my creative life lately has been finding balance. Not going too hard in the paint, deep in the dirt, tuned into the media, tuned out of the media. Just finding the right blend of it all, and allowing that to change on a daily basis.
It’s in living a balanced and blended life, that inspiration seems to flow naturally. I can fall into the trap of thinking working more is better, but that is not always so. The most enriching days for me are in the blends - I learn something new in the garden, have a heartwarming catch-up with a friend, indulge in an afternoon matcha, take a walk with Russell and Teddy, the pup. These simple things allow me to show up to the easel and have something to paint about.
Another element that maintains balance and supports creative flow is sharing it. Thank you for being here, and sharing some beautiful moments with me.
Because beauty matters. Truth matters. Love matters. And your presence matters.
I wish you a wonderful week, in your corner of the world. May we all create our own ripples of inspiration.
With love, Jess
My creative blend this week
Tried painting en plein air in Garden Coco for the very first time. It was not without its hiccups, but overall a delightful experience with room for some improvements.
I turned to Joaquín Sorolla, a Spanish garden painter, for inspiration this week. He was known as “the painter of light” and his oil painting technique is breathtaking.
Dr. Huey, the climbing burgundy rose, is in his final bloom. So naturally he became my painting muse. I also happened to have the perfect color canvas prepped with Coco’s signature color, “vintage blue agave.” (Thank you all for the help with picking a name!)
Excited to see where these garden paintings go… I always know I’m on the right track when I can’t wait to start the next piece. 🥰
I would love to hear about your creative blend, if you feel like sharing.
Always need the lovely energy you give!🫶🏾
A trip into the magical musical world of Coco and Jess always relaxes me and puts a smile on my face. So fun to see the juxtaposition of a high energy teddy dog bringing in a little chaos into the serene scene. That was an unexpected "and". Love the colors of the roses with the sage, muted teal.
