A Gentle Weekend of Slow Creation

these are a few of my favorite things
7

Hello beautiful people,

How have you been? This video captures a lovely, slow weekend filled with my favorite things - watercoloring, abstracting, meditating, gardening and moving gently.

I have been sick for the past couple weeks and am slowly starting to recover. I always think about how Thich Nhat Hahn points out that we don’t notice when things function “correctly.” It’s only when the washing machine breaks that we lament the inconvenience, rather than saying “good job” each time it runs smoothly.

I have been telling my body “good job” for the tiniest of things quite a bit lately.

There was something about getting sick that slowed me down to a state of deep rest that I haven’t been able to experience in a long time. I find this to be one of the most creative states, the place of open awareness and surrender. Hard boundaries between you and your environment blur, time softens, the subconscious thrives, dreams are vivid.

Now, I am emerging from that soft place, but I find myself not ready to leave the ebb quite yet.

I have been indulging in the most delicious mornings, filled with Substacking, studying the Tarot in combination with the Tao Te Ching (I did not realize each card connects to a verse and oooh am I thrilled about this new discovery), stretching, sitting and breathing.

How is your breathing these days? That is a question I have been asking my chums when we catch up, and many like me answer “short.” So, I hope this video gives you a couple moments of pause to take some long, deep breaths with me.

Wishing you a wonderful week,

x Jess

P.S. Happy Mother’s Day!
