Creating a Balanced Life

a weekend full of butterflies, blue irises and big canvases
5

Hello beautiful people,

The studio and garden are brimming with the beginnings of summer. There is a particular blend of excitement and possibility, tempered with the warm summer breeze, that gives me permission to do it all one day and almost nothing the next. As the Italians say ~ il dolce far niente “the sweetness of doing nothing.”

The curious thing about doing nothing, or simply taking it slow, is that what I choose to do is done better, especially where creativity is concerned. I get better rest, have more clarity and ability to focus, a fuller capacity to laugh, and notice the butterflies dancing around the garden. Things really seem to appreciate having this breathing room between them.

I have been properly reading for the first time in years and my favorite piece this week was On having more interesting ideas by Henrick Karlsson.

This is a way of life that I would like to continue… but for now, I’ll take things one creative weekend at a time.

Wishing you a wonderful week,

x Jess
